What is remote access software?
Remote access software programs supports connecting to a PC on your home network from outside. Remote access software allows you to retrieve personal data or assist family members with network problems when not physically at home.
Many different remote access software products exist, but not all are equally fast, reliable, and secure. The products listed below generally offer a good combination of features, performance and security support.
1. Multi Screen Remote Desktop
Multi Screen Remote Desktop is a remote access software that allows the network administrator to view and control remote computers without having to leave his own workplace. The Administrator connects to a remote computer over the network and, having the remote desktop on the screen of his own computer, launches programs, changes computer settings, and initiates remote shutdown by using the keyboard and mouse of his own. Unlike other remote access software, it can display up to 9 screens simultaneously in separated small windows, so you can watch to see what's happening on those remote screens conveniently.
2. Symantec pcAnywhere
pcAnywhere from Symantec has been a perennial leading remote access software solution. The product includes first-time connection wizards, bandwidth auto detection, and other advanced features. pcAnywhere uses a client-server model meaning that remote access software must be installed on any computers either making or receiving remote connections.
3. RealVNC
RealVNC is a free remote access software package designed to work on both Windows and Java platforms. VNC technology began as a corporate research project many years ago, and RealVNC has emerged now as a solid mainstream product.
4. GoToMyPC
GoToMyPC is Web-based remote access software. Unlike other products in this space, GoToMyPC requires setup only of those computers needing to receive incoming remote access requests. After registering those computers, remote connections are initiated via your Web browser. GoToMyPC strives to be more firewall-friendly than other products through its use of Web protocols.
5. PC IN IE
PC in Internet Explorer (PC-in-IE) is a secure and simple remote access software to allow you to remote access your PC via Internet Explorer on another PC from another side of the network.
For example, with PC-in-IE, you can setup your home/office PC as host-side PC then you still can easily access it and work on it from any other PC while you are not at home or in office. To enable Remote Access, you only need to download this software and run it on the Host-side PC, which you want to access remotely. And that's all.
This is also an ideal solution for education, training and demonstration at schools or in companies.
